What is Peshtemal

“Peshtemal”, which is part of the Turkish cultural heritage, originated from Persian language.

Peshtemal, also known as Turkish towel, hammam towel and fouta towel, is an important tradition that has been carried from the Ottoman Empire to the modern-day. Peshtemal is in fact among the oldest dresses of the human history.

Peshtemal towels are extremely light and take up very little space, making them the ideal travel companion. They also dry quickly, making them more environmentally friendly and durable. Softness is one of the most important aspects of a peshtemal: its organic fabric structure doesn’t irritate sensitive skins and it doesn’t leave marks and scratches. It’s ideal also for baby care.

What is Pesthemal?

If we had been told years ago that peshtemal towels would be so trendy, perhaps we would have not believed it. Peshtemal towels are incredibly versatile: they can be used as glamorous bathroom towel or as a chic sarong on the beach. And why not using them as table runners, sofa throws and even picnic blankets!

Our peshtemals are made using 100% organic cotton loomed in a traditional wooden machine. They maintain their shape and texture and they get softer and more absorbent as you wash them.
